Day 2 Hong Kong: New Territory & Kowloon City

We started the very wet day by venturing to the HK Heritage Museum at Shatin. There was a special Christian Dior Couture exhibit that the girlfriend was very excited about.

We then went on our way to visit the 10,000 Buddha which is nearby but it was pouring so heavy that we were stranded for a bit, so we decided to visit the nearby teahouse and had some lovely Jasmine tea.

Our next stop was Islam Foods in Kowloon city. We read about their famed juicy beef pies and were keen to try it out. The restaurant served halal chinese food and when we arrived at about 1.30pm it was completely packed! We had to share a table with 3 other couples. This is the practice in HK. In order to accomodate everyone (due to the huge population of the city), the waiters just sit you wherever there is an empty space. The menu was all in chinese so I let the girlfriend do the ordering. They had some pictures of the food and everything looked really tasty. I opted for some stir fried prawn and special fried rice and the girlfriend had beef brisket noodles. We had the beef pies ( its called veal goulash on their picture menu) and it was definitely worth the trip. We ordered extras to take away.

We then preceded to Ladies Market in Mong Kok which is kind of like Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur. I bought some t shirts and some souveniers.

The girlfriend planned dinner with her friends in HK - Faye and Joanne and we made our way to Siam Cafe in Soho in Central. We had a ride on the mid levels escalators which seem to just go on and on! It was really quite exciting. I hope to explore more of the cafes, bars and restaurants all along the escalators next time.

We also discovered that at nearby centres and footbridges, there was a big congregation of filipino maids from all around HK. The girlfriend said they normally group around in Queensway and Victoria Park but cos the weather was really wet, they had to search for covered areas. Hmmm interesting...
